Phonopolis gets a May 20 release date on PC

Phonopolis now has a release date: Amanita Design will launch the 3D puzzle adventure on PC on May 20 through Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. The announcement finally gives the project a clear endpoint after a long development cycle that began with its first reveal in 2022, and it confirms that the game is close to reaching players after years of work.

Players take on the role of Felix, a garbage collector who becomes the only person fully aware of the threat posed by the city’s Leader. His goal is to stop the “Absolute Tone” before it turns the population into obedient servants, which frames the story around pressure, manipulation, and the effort to resist an authoritarian system rather than around a conventional rescue mission.

Phonopolis also stands apart from Amanita Design’s earlier games because it uses full English voice narration, with Joe Acheson handling the spoken performance. That change gives the story a different presentation from the studio’s more familiar non-verbal approach, while subtitles in 17 additional languages make the release easier to follow for players outside English-speaking markets.

The launch follows a public demo released on Steam in February 2026, which has surpassed 600 user reviews and currently sits at 99% positive. That reception suggests strong interest in the game’s tone and structure, even if the full release will be the real test. Amanita Design is also preparing Constructing Phonopolis, a documentary about the game’s development that will be published on YouTube shortly before launch, adding a behind-the-scenes look at how the project came together.
