Lyrical Games and One More Level have announced that Valor Mortis will launch on September 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. The game is a single-player first-person soulslike set in a corrupted alternate version of 19th-century Europe, where the Napoleonic wars have left behind something far darker than ruined battlefields and broken armies.
Players take on the role of William, a soldier of the Grande Armée who died serving Napoleon and has now risen from a battlefield grave. The Europe he awakens to is not the one he sacrificed himself for. A mysterious plague is spreading across the continent, and the same corrupting force that brought him back to life now pulses through his veins. Resurrection becomes less a second chance and more the beginning of a new nightmare.
Combat is built around parries, dashes, a range of weapons, and visceral finishers. Each death is also a chance to grow stronger, pushing players to master timing, movement, and the strange power inside William. That corrupted energy can enhance attacks and unlock new supernatural abilities, turning the protagonist’s curse into a practical tool against enemies that are increasingly difficult to overcome.
Exploration will move through an alternate historical landscape warped by the cost of endless war. New mobility options will help players outmaneuver plague-ridden abominations, navigate dangerous spaces, and uncover environmental secrets that may improve their chances of survival. Among the threats are the monstrous forces of Napoleon’s Eternal Guard, a sign that the old military order has been twisted into something horrifying.
Valor Mortis also leans into a story where historical figures and realities collide with horror and the supernatural. William’s journey will push beyond the darkest corners of this world as he searches for the truth behind the plague, his unholy resurrection, and the conspiracy spreading through the continent. The release date announcement was accompanied by a new trailer focused on the game’s launch.
