God of War Laufey now has a release date: the next chapter in the series will launch for PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio are shifting the focus to Laufey, also known as Faye, the warrior and wife of Kratos. The game is positioned as an action adventure for both returning fans and new players, using a familiar universe while placing a different lead at the center of the story.
The premise begins after Faye’s death. What should have been the end becomes the start of another journey when she unexpectedly wakes in a strange land and discovers that the plans she left behind to protect Kratos and Atreus are now in danger. Family remains the emotional core, but the perspective changes sharply: Faye is no longer only part of Kratos and Atreus’ past, but the active force trying to defend their future.
Her path leads into the Everywhen, an afterlife of the gods filled with dangerous magic and ruthless deities from across mythology. That setting gives the game a wider mythological battleground, where rival divine powers fight for control and Faye must push through threats tied to more than one pantheon. The setup keeps the series close to its mythic identity, while giving this chapter a different angle from the Kratos-led entries.
Combat is built around Faye’s speed, control, and relentless precision. The description of her fighting style points toward an action system focused on decisive movement and fast pressure, rather than simply repeating the heavier image associated with Kratos. God of War Laufey will also matter beyond its own story, as the next Kratos-led God of War game is planned to release after it and connect directly to Faye’s journey.
