The Defiant is now coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series alongside its previously announced PC version via Steam. Publisher 4Divinity and developer Hoothanes confirmed the additional platforms with a new gameplay trailer, although a release date has not been announced. The project is a historical first-person shooter set against the Second Sino-Japanese War, following a campaign across China during the 1930s and 1940s.

The journey takes the protagonist from western to eastern regions of the country, moving through snowy forests, heavily guarded streets, war-torn villages, and dangerous locations behind enemy lines. A loyal companion travels alongside the player, adding a more personal element to the wider conflict. The setting is therefore more than a backdrop for firefights, with buildings, vegetation, ruins, and occupied spaces used to reflect the damage left across the landscape.
The arsenal includes dozens of weapons divided across rifles, pistols, submachine guns, and other automatic firearms. Confirmed examples include the Hanyang Rifle, Mauser Military Pistol, and MP18 Submachine Gun, connecting the combat directly to weapons associated with modern Chinese history. Different encounters will require players to adjust to distance and enemy pressure, moving between open gunfights and close-range attacks when infiltration or surprise becomes more useful than raw firepower.
The new gameplay presents dangerous battlefields shaped by patrols, searchlights sweeping across the sky, armed resistance, and enemies that can be confronted with firearms or a dagger. The Defiant places a rarely explored historical setting at the center of an FPS campaign, following characters moving through occupied territory and fighting behind hostile lines. The addition of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series expands the project beyond its original PC announcement, but several practical details remain open, including its launch window, available editions, and any differences between the three platform versions.
