Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis shows Focus, crafting, and skill trees

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is back with the sixth developer mini-documentary exploring the making of its reimagining of Lara Croft’s original 1996 adventure. This episode shifts the focus to combat, weapons, crafting, and skill-tree progression, while Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog provide a more detailed explanation of the new Focus system. The game launches February 12, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam.

Focus is designed to connect the more modern combat system with the acrobatic side of Lara that defined the original Tomb Raider. The meter builds as she deals damage, takes hits, and dodges attacks. Once enough Focus has been accumulated, Lara can slow down the action around her and perform acrobatic maneuvers controlled through the sticks, creating additional opportunities to react to enemies and set up counterattacks.

The arsenal is also being built around different approaches to combat. Lara’s iconic dual pistols return alongside other weapons, with each option providing its own play style. Weapon choice therefore affects more than raw damage, changing how Lara can respond to threats and counter different enemies throughout the adventure.

The latest behind-the-scenes episode also provides the first look at crafting and the game’s skill-tree progression. Those systems will sit alongside exploration, puzzles, and combat in the modernized adventure, which retains the search for the lost secrets of Atlantis and reimagines memorable moments from the 1996 game, including the T-Rex encounter.

Legacy of Atlantis remains a single-player narrative action-adventure built as a full reinterpretation of Lara Croft’s debut. Earlier developer episodes have covered movement, exploration, puzzles, traps, the environments of Peru, and its creatures. This latest installment instead explains how character progression and expanded combat options will help reshape the classic adventure for its 2027 return.
