NightRunner Brings Co-op Rail Survival to PC in 2027

NightRunner is heading to PC in 2027 with a mix of horde survival, PvE extraction and 1-4 player co-op. The next game from 314 Arts casts players as NightRunners, crews taking dangerous jobs in a world reshaped by an apocalyptic solar event. Before launch, the game is also set to receive its first public playtest on Steam in September 2026.

The train sits at the center of every run. Your wagon is a mobile base, and the crew only keeps its gear if the train reaches the destination. That turns each mission into a moving extraction route, where players defend the rails, repair damage, fight off mutants and decide when a stop for extra resources is worth the risk. Escaping with loot is not automatic; it depends on how well the team survives the trip.

Players can choose between four Runner Kits, with each kit changing how they fight, scavenge and support the rest of the squad. Scavenging zones provide weapons, materials and valuable loot, while permanent Runner-Tech unlocks carry progress between missions and help crews take on tougher jobs. The structure mixes roguelite pressure with persistent progression, then folds in co-op combat, tactical decision-making, train defense and hostile dungeon runs.

The announced modes cover different ways to approach the same core loop. Train Jobs are the signature setup, built around wagon selection, loadout preparation, scavenging stops and a final push to extraction. Transition Jobs move the action onto an armed ship crossing mutant-infested waters, with no reinforcements or scavenging breaks to lean on. Dungeons offer linear levels with deadly enemies, boss encounters and the most valuable loot, while Endless focuses on escalating waves, adaptation and high-score survival.
