The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will return on November 5, 2026 with a remake built for Nintendo Switch 2. The 1998 adventure has been reconstructed with completely overhauled visuals, redesigned materials and environments, faster loading, smoother performance and symphonic orchestral music. The audio has also been refreshed, while story scenes now feature full voice acting and expanded dialogue for the characters Link encounters throughout Hyrule.
The changes extend well beyond presentation. Movement and camera controls have been redesigned around a more modern setup, with new button commands allowing Link to run and jump freely and the right stick providing direct camera control across remodeled locations. Hyrule’s day-and-night cycle will now continue everywhere, including inside towns, making the passage of time more consistent across the adventure.
One new feature is Threads of Time, which can be opened at any point to review story progress and check the next objective. Link’s journey is also represented through a large tapestry that gradually fills as the adventure advances. The remake makes use of the Switch 2 microphone as well: humming a melody Link has already learned can prompt him to perform it on his ocarina inside the game.
ZELDA NOTES will add another set of features through the Nintendo Switch App on compatible smart devices. Players can review a chronological record of daily accomplishments, search for locations using hint images, play a virtual ocarina and tackle a quiz containing more than 2,000 questions. The ocarina tool can guide performances, play songs automatically and even support custom music scores that can be shared through QR codes.
The first physical print run will come in special packaging featuring textured foil cover artwork while supplies last. New Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo figures are also planned for 2027, unlocking special masks with a retro graphical appearance. Players tracking this and other Nintendo releases can use the Playority Nintendo Switch Calendar to save games to their account and receive personalized notifications when release dates, platforms or trailers change.
