Realpolitiks 4: Back to the Roots

Lead a nation. Build its strength. Shift the balance of power.

Realpolitiks 4 returns to the foundations of the first game in the series: an accessible real-time geopolitical strategy game in which you take charge of any nation you choose and decide its future. Expanded systems for the economy, domestic politics, international cooperation and warfare give you new tools to bring your vision to life.

Become a regional power, build influence through diplomacy and investment, or pursue military superiority. Combine reforms, national projects, espionage and cooperation with your partners. Every strategy requires balancing your ambitions against your economy's capabilities, your people's expectations and the reactions of other nations.

Develop your economy and manage your finances

Set tax policy, invest in provincial buildings and carry out projects that support your nation's development. Access financial markets and decide how to fund your plans. Manage debt, repayment schedules and debt servicing costs while accounting for your credit rating and inflation. Building prosperity requires decisions whose consequences extend far beyond the current budget.

Shape politics and win support

Set the course of political reform and respond to the demands of interest groups. Work with their leaders, negotiate, support your allies or take risky action in defiance of your opponents. Fund ideological campaigns and track shifts in public opinion. Banning a group can drive it underground and fuel further unrest.

Build your standing on the international stage

Pursue membership and influence in organizations such as the European Union, NATO, BRICS and ASEAN. Take advantage of opportunities for economic and security cooperation, support your partners and influence the cohesion of each organization. Enlargement, accession requirements and alliance commitments bring new decisions on your path to international prominence.

Plan military operations and negotiate peace

Choose the forces for each operation, set its pace and decide when it begins. Factor in terrain, weather forecasts and logistics as you assess the chances of success and expected losses. Follow the course of the conflict through reports and the war diary. Enter negotiations, set peace terms and seek agreements with rebels whose uprisings have their own causes and demands.

Choose an advisor and put their doctrine into practice

Appoint advisors with different views on the economy, diplomacy and national power. Build their trust, address their agendas and unlock projects. Make the most of your chosen doctrine's strengths while accounting for its limitations. Completed reforms can leave a lasting legacy even after a change of advisor.

Guide your nation through a changing world

Start the main campaign in 2000 and face events inspired by history alongside the challenges of the future. Choose sandbox play or campaigns with objectives designed for selected nations. Develop technologies, invest in coastal and underwater installations and, in time, open a new chapter of competition through a space program.

A revamped interface, thematic maps, forecasts and reports help you assess the situation and plan your next move.

What future will you build for your nation?
