Sponge Break has a release date: the cooperative rafting adventure will launch for PC via Steam on July 30, 2026 for $7.99. Published by Balor Games and developed by Goose Byte, the game builds everything around a simple and ridiculous premise: up to four players become sponges escaping the tyranny of the kitchen sink, packed onto a fragile raft while a dangerous river tries to destroy their gear, their route, and whatever plan they thought they had.
The structure is designed for cooperative chaos. Sponge Break supports one to four players, with drop-in co-op and full solo support for anyone who wants to brave the rapids alone. The raft is unstable, the traversal is physics-driven, and one bad move can flip everything, scatter equipment, damage the team, and turn a clean escape into a disaster. Teamwork matters, but the game clearly leaves plenty of room for panic, bad timing, and mistakes that become part of the fun.
One of its defining features is proximity voice chat, with sponge characters lip-syncing to player voices. Communication becomes part of the comedy: players can warn each other, argue over steering, or listen as the whole crew falls apart in real time. The plunger-hook adds another layer to the mess, working like a grappling tool that can grab anything not bolted down. It pairs with a shared raft stash, giving the team a place to store loot before the river inevitably tries to take it away.
The journey moves through multiple biomes, including sewers, rivers, abandoned facilities, and other hazard-filled areas. Safehouses between levels let players patch up, revive, restock, and prepare for the next stretch. Sponge Break also includes more than 100 cosmetic options, covering sponge eyes, eyebrows, mouths, hats, inflatable buoys, plungers, and emotes. It is a co-op game about surviving the river, but just as much about looking ridiculous while everything goes wrong.
