The Relic: First Guardian Shows Off Dark Fantasy Exploration

Perp Games and Project Cloud Games have released a new exploration-focused trailer for The Relic: First Guardian, offering 12 minutes of gameplay from the upcoming dark fantasy action RPG. The game launches on July 31 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, while Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions will follow later this summer. The footage focuses on the journey through Arsiltus, a once-prosperous world transformed into a land of death after the destruction of the Great Relic.

Players take the role of the last Guardian, tasked with recovering the shattered relic’s fragments and closing the void that swallowed the kingdom. Arsiltus is designed as a semi-open world, where the main story leaves room for alternate paths, dungeons, secrets, and dangerous locations. Exploration is not meant to simply connect one battle to the next. It is a central part of rebuilding the world and finding the tools needed to survive its threats.

The progression system avoids traditional character levels. Instead, The Relic: First Guardian lets players strengthen their build through runes, items, and crafting, using equipment and resources to create a setup that matches their preferred style. Defeating bosses and completing dungeons will expand the Guardian’s options and open up new parts of the world, tying progression to the discovery of Arsiltus rather than a simple accumulation of experience points.

Combat is built around five weapon types, each with unique skills that can be adjusted around different approaches. That structure should give players room to experiment, whether they prefer a more aggressive fighter, a defensive build, or a style focused on careful use of abilities. The trailer also highlights large enemy encounters, vertical areas, and ruined environments, reinforcing the idea of an adventure where exploration and combat develop side by side.

Alongside the action, The Relic: First Guardian will feature puzzles connected to collecting relic fragments and uncovering the past of Arsiltus. The new deep dive presents a project that is not aiming to rely only on difficult combat, but also on more open progression and a world that rewards careful exploration. The PS5 and PC release is now close, while Xbox Series and Switch 2 players will need to wait a few more weeks for their own journey into the corrupted kingdom.
