Torii: Beyond The Gates is coming to Steam, with its release window still listed as “coming soon.” The new game from Oh Baby Games, which is both developer and publisher, is a hand-drawn 2D adventure built around metroidvania, RPG and action platformer elements. It is designed as a single-player journey focused on exploration, combat and progression through a spirit realm that has fallen apart.
The story follows a protagonist searching for a missing brother. The spirit realm has broken, and its inner links no longer hold together as they should. The journey leads through different gates and connected worlds, where secrets, encounters and new bonds become part of the path forward. The central mystery is not only where the brother has gone, but why the realm itself has fractured.
Gameplay combines platforming and combat through dodges, parries, dashes and sword attacks against enemies and bosses with different abilities. Torii: Beyond The Gates also places importance on reading obstacles and studying opponents before striking, so its action is not built only around speed. New arts, skills and equipment learned during the adventure should gradually expand how players move, fight and survive.
The visual identity is one of its clearest traits. Characters, environments and landscapes are presented in a hand-drawn and hand-painted 2D style, aiming to echo the traditional look of classic platformers through a more modern frame.
