Mortal Shell II has a release date: the soulslike action RPG sequel developed by Cold Symmetry and published by Playstack launches on August 20, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC via Steam. The sequel expands the core idea of awakening and possessing dormant warriors found across a broken world. Each Shell comes with innate strengths, unique abilities and memories to uncover, giving progression a character-driven layer beyond weapons and stats. Players take the role of the Harbinger, a prophesied figure sent to reclaim the stolen Ova of the blessed Undermether from the creatures guarding her unborn.<\/p>\n

Combat is positioned as faster and less restricted than the first Mortal Shell. The system is still grounded, but it is no longer limited by stamina, encouraging players to pressure enemies, break posture and land critical strikes through different tactics. Weapon design also has a larger role, with extensive upgrade options that should make each build feel more deliberate as new Shells and tools become available.<\/p>\n

The world takes the form of an interconnected, compact open structure, with routes that reward exploration without stretching the journey too thin. Its locations include derelict temples, forbidden forests, icy graves and citadels carved from bone, with story fragments, strange weapons, upgrades, curiosities and additional Shells scattered off the main path. More than 60 dungeons are also placed between these landmarks, each offering a separate challenge for the player\u2019s accumulated skills and weaponry.<\/p>\n

PlayStation 5 will also receive a physical Revered Edition, which includes the base game, a SteelBook case, an art book, fine art prints, the Obsidian and Skeletal Harbinger pre-order bonus skins, and a collector\u2019s box. Between the special editions, early access window and broader combat structure, Mortal Shell II is shaping its return around a more aggressive, explorable and loot-driven take on the original\u2019s shell-swapping identity.<\/p>\n
