Era One reveals multiplayer with modular bases and space warfare

Era One has revealed its competitive multiplayer for the first time in a new trailer released by Team Complex ahead of gamescom 2026. The mode puts players directly against each other while retaining the core systems of the sci-fi strategy game, moving from base construction and preparation into large-scale space warfare. The footage provides the first detailed look at a recently announced part of the game that will expand the experience beyond its single-player campaign.

Multiplayer will also be a major part of Era One’s presence at gamescom in Cologne from August 26 to 30. Attendees will be able to try the mode at the Home of Indies booth in Hall 10.2. Team Complex is also using the event for another important milestone: the studio will officially announce the date when Era One leaves Early Access and reaches its full 1.0 release.

The game is built around a combination of base building, ship design, and tactical combat across space. Players develop their structures, shape their fleets, and enter battles where preparation and strategic decisions remain closely connected. The newly revealed multiplayer brings those systems into direct player-versus-player confrontations, adding a competitive layer to a structure already centered on customization and planning. More information about the project can be found on the official website for Era One.

Its setting takes place in a distant future where humanity has long since abandoned Earth. After the planet’s resources were exhausted and the intergalactic political order collapsed, survival became the central struggle for what remained of civilization. Protagonist Alya De Shars sets out in search of a new beginning beyond the solar system, with the story accompanied by an original piano soundtrack composed by Alberto Selvaggi.

Era One is also the first fully independent game from Team Complex, a studio whose roots stretch back to the modding scene of the 1990s. The team previously created the Complex mod for Homeworld and later collaborated with Gearbox Software on Homeworld Remastered. Gamescom will therefore serve as both the public showcase for the multiplayer mode and the stage for confirming when the project will make the transition from Early Access to version 1.0.
