Mega Man: Dual Override received its first extended gameplay trailer at Gamescom, giving players a clearer look at the new mechanics, bosses and playable characters coming to the twelfth mainline entry in the classic series. Capcom’s action platformer is planned for 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store.

The biggest addition is Proto Man returning as a playable character alongside the Blue Bomber. His presence gives players two distinct styles for tackling stages, enemy patterns and boss fights, adding more flexibility without moving the game away from the sharp platforming and weapon-based progression that define classic Mega Man.
The new Override system adds a risk-reward layer to combat. Robots can temporarily push beyond their normal limits and unleash extra power, but the boost comes with a drawback: once Override ends, performance drops for a short time. Choosing when to activate it should matter, especially during tougher boss patterns or platforming sections where a badly timed penalty could create problems.
Customization also expands through the Custom Chip System, which lets players install extra abilities for Mega Man and Proto Man. Examples include rapid-fire, a protective shield bubble, hover and other upgrades that can be mixed to shape different strategies. Special weapons still play a major role, consuming energy while offering both damage and utility, including a charged attack that also works as an aerial dash.
The new Robot Masters include Twinkle Girl, whose attacks revolve around fireworks, while Astro Man from Mega Man 8 also appears briefly. Mega Man: Dual Override is already available to wishlist on PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and Steam, with more details on the official website for Mega Man: Dual Override.
