METRO 2039 has a release date: the new single-player FPS from 4A Games, published by Deep Silver, will launch on February 4, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store. The announcement comes with a new trailer showing the first console gameplay, bringing the series back to the tunnels and ruins of Moscow.
The game moves the timeline to 2039, twenty-five years after nuclear war forced the last survivors underground beneath a poisoned city. The long conflict between Metro factions appears to be over, but that unity now exists under Hunter, a fanatical Spartan who has become the leader of the Novoreich regime.
This new peace is built on propaganda, fear and control. Novoreich pushes the population toward a war for the surface against a dark threat, while life in the Metro remains trapped between obedience, superstition and daily survival. The setting therefore focuses on internal conflict as much as external danger, with the regime’s promise of salvation starting to look like another kind of prison.
The protagonist is the Stranger, a reclusive figure living beyond the city and haunted by violent waking nightmares. When the ghosts of his past force him out of exile, his journey leads back into the shattered ruins of Moscow and toward the one place he swore he would never return to: the Metro.
In gameplay terms, METRO 2039 combines exploration, survival, combat and stealth across a hostile, dark and immersive world.
