Muramasa: Revenant Blades will launch on February 4, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Marvelous and Vanillaware are bringing back the side-scrolling action RPG by combining Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Genroku Legends into a refined release for modern platforms.
The appeal still comes from its mix of Japanese folklore, tragedy, swordplay, and journeys across a violent fantasy version of Japan. The collection follows six protagonists with separate fates, letting players choose which story to experience first. Kisuke and Momohime remain the most recognizable faces from the original game, while Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki expand the package with different motives, stories, and combat styles.
The action system focuses on fast combos, simple controls, jumps, dashes, guards, and deflections. Every fight also revolves around the Spirit Gauge attached to each weapon, because attacking recklessly can break a blade once its spirit runs out. Sheathed weapons gradually recover spirit, so switching at the right moment becomes part of the flow rather than a minor equipment detail.
Kisuke and Momohime can wield both normal swords and long blades, with 108 secret arts to master between them. Okoi fights in both human and cat forms, Gonbe uses a hoe, bamboo spear, and sickle, Arashimaru specializes in long-range ninja weapons and can summon Shirohebi, while Rajaki relies on demonic forms to overpower enemies. That variety gives Revenant Blades a broader rhythm than a single-character action game.
Progression also runs through training, smithing, and upgrades. Kisuke and Momohime learn new secret arts by gaining experience with their swords, then assign different techniques for ground and aerial combat. They can also forge new blades using souls earned from defeated enemies. The other characters develop through dedicated training, skills, and charms that improve stats such as attack power and spirit strength.
Away from combat, Muramasa: Revenant Blades keeps its travel-driven identity. Hot springs restore vitality and provide special benefits, meals can support the enhancement of secret arts, palanquin bearers help with movement across the map, and boat rides can lead to fishing or dangerous encounters with giant sea monsters.
The new release also adds gallery-style features, including illustrations, flashbacks, a script viewer for past dialogue, and unlockable content tied to progression. Reminisce mode lets players revisit the original gameplay of Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Genroku Legends with enhanced graphics, creating a direct bridge between preservation and visual modernization.
Players tracking the February 2027 lineup can add Muramasa: Revenant Blades to the Playority Calendar, saving it to a personal account for customized updates on release timing, platforms, editions, and availability when new information appears.
In North America, the standard edition will cost $49.99 on PlayStation 5 and Switch, while the Switch 2 version will cost $59.99 and include the full game on the card. The limited edition will cost $89.99 or $99.99 depending on platform, with the game, a collectible art book, a limited soundtrack CD with selected tracks, and a folding byobu screen.
