Become, a third-person adventure in which players control a sperm cell, picked up several awards at September’s Tokyo Game Show. The game was one of seven Gold Award winners in the Selected Indie 80 showcase, which attracted more than 1,500 entries. It also received the Pocky Award from the event’s official ambassador and was selected as a finalist for Sense of Wonder Night.

The recognition follows an appearance at Game Access in Brno, where Become won Best Pitch and received a Best Game nomination. The project has also passed 145,000 Steam wishlists. For an independent game centered on a journey through the human reproductive system, that figure provides a clear indication of the attention its unusual premise has attracted ahead of release.
Players must navigate toward an egg while competing with countless other sperm cells. Along the way, they encounter acidic environments, antibodies, strong currents and membranes that block their progress. Collecting sugars and proteins allows players to improve their cell’s speed, durability and swimming efficiency. Progress also involves rescuing other sperm cells and working with them to get past obstacles, rather than relying exclusively on speed.
The game is designed as a linear single-player adventure lasting roughly two to three hours. Movement includes swimming with or against currents, hopping, pushing and breaking through barriers. Players can customize their character’s appearance, while the environments introduce aspects of reproductive biology through a humorous take on the microscopic setting. Exploration, resource collection and upgrades provide structure to the journey.
Become is being developed by ProtoSeed Games, founded by Valentin Wirth after nearly a decade working on the Mafia series. The team also includes technical director Marek Nesvadba, level designer Emil Gašparec and composer Martin Konvička. A PC release through Steam is planned for 2026, although a specific launch date has not been announced. The official website for Become provides additional information about the game.
