Black Myth: Zhong Kui has resurfaced with a roughly 15-minute gameplay trailer, offering the first real look at the protagonist in combat and a glimpse of the story. Game Science’s new single player action RPG is the second entry in the Black Myth series and is currently in development for PC and major console platforms, although no release date has been announced yet.
The footage comes from an early work-in-progress build, meaning some elements may still change before launch. Even so, the in-game material, captured in a 21:9 aspect ratio, already sets a clear direction for the project: Chinese mythology, dramatic combat and a central figure inspired by Zhong Kui, the famous demon-catcher from traditional folklore.
Expectations are high because of the shadow cast by Black Myth: Wukong, Game Science’s previous title. Released on PC in 2024, Wukong built a huge following and recorded extremely high sales, becoming one of the most visible recent action RPGs rooted in Chinese mythology. Player reception also remains strong: on Steam, the game holds “Very Positive” user reviews, with 93 percent positive feedback across more than 70,000 English reviews.
That background makes Zhong Kui a particularly watched successor. Moving from Sun Wukong to another major folkloric figure gives the series room to explore new myths, creatures and darker corners of Chinese fantasy without simply repeating the same journey. For now, the game remains in development, but the first gameplay footage points to clear continuity in visual ambition, combat focus and mythological identity.
