Bubsy 4D expands with the Black Hole update, available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. Atari and Fabraz have added a free campaign containing 15 new levels, sending the bobcat back to previously visited planets for a series of tougher challenges. The additional content opens after defeating Baaptiste, when a giant black hole appears in the galaxy and begins creating strange distortions throughout the different worlds.
The campaign introduces new hazards and enemies while also expanding the competitive side of the platformer. Each of its 15 levels comes with a new time medal and leaderboard, giving players another reason to replay individual challenges and compare their results. Five additional outfits can be unlocked by collecting void fleece, while the update also brings four new achievements or trophies and fresh dialogue with the rest of the cast. Completing the entire game at 100 percent now awards a new special reward as well.
The official website for Bubsy 4D also details several gameplay and stability improvements included with the update. Camera behavior around collisions has been adjusted, while the grounding visualizer should no longer disappear randomly when bouncing in hairball form. Fabraz has also reduced the likelihood of clipping through the ground when entering that form and fixed a rare issue that could leave Bubsy permanently squashed or stretched.
Other changes target levels, bosses, and the interface. Glass tube cannons should now fire more consistently across different hardware, while a possible softlock caused by defeating Baarbee at the exact moment Bubsy dies has been removed. Abilities now correctly remember whether they were enabled or disabled when players quickly move between shop categories. The race timer no longer appears after completing the game before returning to the title screen, and retrying through a dedicated keybind now takes the same amount of time as using the pause menu. Black Hole therefore gives Bubsy 4D a substantial batch of new challenges while also cleaning up several issues across the existing adventure.
