Danganronpa 2×2 will launch on January 14, 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Published by Spike Chunsoft and developed by Gemdrops, the new release returns to Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair without being a simple modern port.
Jabberwock Island remains the stage: once a tourist destination, it is now uninhabited yet strangely pristine. The students of Hope’s Peak Academy arrive for what should be a school trip, but Monokuma’s return turns the island into another mutual killing game where escape depends on solving each mystery.
The main hook is a completely new storyline built on the foundation of the second game. The original setting and cast are back, but one incident changes the chain of events and leads to new victims, culprits, and tricks. The new scenario is planned to deliver a volume of content comparable to the original.
The original Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair scenario is also included, adapted for current platforms with updated visuals, refined presentation, and quality-of-life improvements. That makes Danganronpa 2×2 a dual package rather than a replacement, pairing the familiar case with an alternate version designed to catch returning players off guard.
The chapter structure keeps the series’ identity intact. During Daily Life, players explore Jabberwock Island and interact with the Ultimate Students; once a body is discovered, the Investigation phase shifts the focus to crime scenes, testimonies, evidence, and Truth Bullets needed for the Class Trial.
The trial is still the pressure point of the adventure. Classmates debate the case from different angles, statements fly across the screen, and the player must shoot down contradictions with the right evidence. With fully voiced trials, an introduction trailer, and new screenshots, Danganronpa 2×2 now has a firm place among early 2027 release lineup.
