Square Enix has announced FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE, the first FINAL FANTASY game created with HD-2D visuals. The game will launch on October 22, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store on Windows. The suggested price is €59.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition will cost €69.99 and include the base game along with useful in-game items.
FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is designed as a tribute to both classic and modern FINAL FANTASY. Its HD-2D presentation draws from the charm of retro pixel art while pushing it into a richer visual style, aiming to recall older entries without simply copying them. The game is built around a story of Crystals, using a look that mixes nostalgia with a more modern console-scale RPG presentation.
The battle system will be strategic and turn-based, but with a modern touch. Confirmed elements include the return of chocobos, espers, and airships, all long-running symbols of the series. The game will also feature appearances from beloved FINAL FANTASY characters such as Cloud, Tidus, and the Warrior of Light, giving longtime fans familiar faces inside a new adventure.
The project is based on the first story arc of FINAL FANTASY Brave Exvius, but Square Enix is not presenting it as a simple port. FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE has been refined and broadly rebuilt to deliver a complete RPG experience with console quality. A Collector’s Edition will also be available, including the base game, the Digital Deluxe Edition bonuses, and four exclusive physical items, such as an art book, soundtrack, and an exclusive FINAL FANTASY TRADING CARD GAME promotional card.
