Forza Horizon 6 brings Japan to PS5 on January 26

Forza Horizon 6 will launch on PS5 on January 26, 2027, alongside its first expansion and a free update. Both physical and digital versions are planned, while players who pre-order the Premium Edition can start on January 21, five days before the standard release. Xbox Game Studios and Playground Games have confirmed the PlayStation debut following the game’s May 19 launch on Xbox Series X/S and PC, where it is also available through Game Pass.

The Japanese setting frames a campaign that begins with players arriving as tourists rather than established racing stars. Earning a place in the Horizon Festival requires qualifying through the Horizon Invitational, before climbing the ranks, collecting Wristbands and competing in increasingly fast cars. Reaching Horizon Legend status unlocks Legend Island, a separate area reserved for the Festival’s leading drivers. The campaign supports solo and cooperative play, with exploration and the Collection Journal running alongside the racing progression.

Tokyo City is the largest urban area built for a Forza Horizon game, bringing together suburban roads, downtown streets, docks and industrial districts. Beyond the city, the map includes rural landscapes, varied biomes and changes in elevation. More than 550 real cars are available, spanning familiar JDM favourites and newer vehicles such as the 2025 Toyota GR GT Prototype. Modified Forza Edition models and rare Aftermarket Cars offer further vehicles to collect, test and purchase. Touge Battles and encounters with Festival Legends also connect the campaign to Japanese automotive culture, detailed on the official website for Forza Horizon 6.

Customisation extends beyond the cars themselves. Players can purchase homes with garages they can arrange to display their collections, including layouts downloaded from the community. Unlocking the Estate provides a mountain valley for building freely within the open world. Vehicle options include body kits, additional Forza Aero components and window liveries. Meanwhile, CoLab expands EventLab with multiplayer building, allowing friends to create custom events anywhere in Japan and share them for other players to try.

Online activities include Car Meets, Time Attack Circuits, Drag Meets and Spec Racing Championships, alongside returning modes The Eliminator and Hide & Seek. Accessibility options feature adjustable high contrast, a Car Proximity Radar, AutoDrive and American and British Sign Language support. The audio incorporates revised engine recordings and more detailed interactions with road surfaces, while environmental recordings captured across Japan’s four seasons accompany a soundtrack that includes Japanese artists.

For players planning their next purchases on Sony’s console, the Playority PS5 release calendar offers a way to track upcoming games, add them to an account and receive updates when release dates change.
