Holstin Brings Psychological Survival Horror to 1990s Poland

Holstin will launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, GOG and Microsoft Store, with Game Pass availability planned as well. The psychological survival horror game from Sonka, published by Team17, takes players to Jeziorne-Kolonia, a rural lakeside town covered in ooze and twisted into something hostile by a spreading curse.

The story follows Tomasz Wolanski, who arrives in town searching for a missing friend, an investigative journalist last seen there. Survival depends on scavenging weapons, supplies and anything else that can keep Tomasz alive, but the remaining townsfolk are just as important. Their sanity is fading, and gaining their trust can reveal clues, puzzle solutions and secrets buried beneath their delusions.

Holstin’s visual identity is built around Sonka’s 2XD Rendering technology, which gives its pixel art world real-time lighting and dynamic camera perspectives. The camera can rotate across eight angles and shift depending on the situation, moving between isometric exploration, over-the-shoulder combat, first-person driving, top-down movement and side-scrolling platforming.

The setting focuses on the look and mood of 1990s post-Soviet Eastern Europe, especially Poland. Faded wallpaper, battered appliances, old advertisements, signage, architecture and ordinary household objects are used to make Jeziorne-Kolonia feel grounded before the horror takes over. The cast will be fully voiced in Polish and English, with music by Polish alternative rock band Heima.
