Langrisser: Sea of Sword Reveals First Gameplay

Langrisser: Sea of Sword has revealed its first gameplay trailer alongside new details and screenshots. The game is the latest entry in the Langrisser series and is described as a next-generation fantasy tactical RPG for PC via Steam, iOS, and Android. A release date has not been announced yet, but the project already has a clear direction: preserve the strategic core of the series while moving beyond rigid linear stage progression into a broader structure built around tactics, exploration, and a more open sense of adventure.

The story follows the Nameless, a figure searching for lost memories while traveling through mist, sea, and political conflict with Eta, a mysterious white-haired girl. The journey leads into a vast empire shaped by rival factions, tangled ambitions, and difficult choices. The tone moves away from a simple heroic expedition and leans into survival, resistance, and identity, with the player caught between shifting loyalties and nations pushed toward conflict.

The biggest gameplay change is the new combat structure. Langrisser: Sea of Sword keeps the series’ hero-and-soldier foundation, but expands it with squads built around two heroes and two troop types. Players can assign main and secondary heroes, then switch their roles during battle to change skills and tactical functions. Certain hero pairings can also trigger exclusive Hero Unity Skills, adding another layer to party composition and battlefield planning.

Exploration is also becoming a larger part of the formula. Forests, towns, royal cities, and caves can be explored directly, with light puzzle mechanics, material gathering, hidden encounters, and NPC interactions spread across the world. Progression also unlocks a player-controlled territory that grows from a basic camp into a stronger fortress. Battles add more environmental options through height advantage, destructible objects, bridges, and fortifications, allowing the battlefield itself to shape the path to victory. The soundtrack is being composed by Yasunori Nishiki, while familiar faces such as Leon, Elwin, and Sherry will return in renewed form.
