Nintendo Classics has expanded its lineup with four additions split across Game Boy and Game Boy Advance. The Game Boy – Nintendo Classics app now includes The Sword of Hope, Fortified Zone and Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, while the Game Boy Advance – Nintendo Classics app adds Dr. Mario & Puzzle League. The Game Boy app is available to Nintendo Switch Online members, while the Game Boy Advance selection remains part of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.
The Sword of Hope brings a classic role-playing adventure to the catalog. The story follows Prince Theo after his father, King Hennessy, is corrupted by an evil dragon, throwing the kingdom into crisis and forcing Theo toward a confrontation tied to his family and his homeland. Its structure focuses on exploration, turn-based progression and boss encounters built around specific weaknesses, making each major fight depend on reading the enemy rather than simply pushing forward.
Fortified Zone shifts the update toward top-down action shooting. Masato and Mizuki infiltrate a military fortress across four maze-like stages, moving through areas such as a field, a jungle, a cave and a military complex. The ability to switch between the two characters gives the game its main tactical hook, since each one brings different skills: one can pick up enemy weapons, while the other can jump to avoid traps and environmental hazards.
Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 is the most recognizable Game Boy addition in the batch. It is the third entry in the Super Mario Land trilogy, the first game in the Wario Land series and the first title with Wario as the lead character. After losing his wealth, Wario heads to the pirates’ island to steal treasure for himself. The gameplay centers on his shoulder charge, used to knock away enemies, break blocks and open chests, while collected coins and treasures affect the reward he receives at the end.
Dr. Mario & Puzzle League rounds out the update on Game Boy Advance with a two-in-one puzzle release. Dr. Mario uses color-matching rules built around vitamins and viruses, with Classic, Vs. CPU and Flash modes. Puzzle League focuses on blocks, chains and combos through modes such as Marathon, Timed, Line, Garbage and Puzzle. The package also includes unlockable Vertical Mode options and multiplayer support through Single-Pak and Multi-Pak play.
