Nintendo has announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, a remake of the classic originally released for Nintendo 64. The game will launch in 2026 and will be exclusive to Nintendo’s new system. For now, Nintendo has not shared a more specific release date or detailed gameplay information, presenting the project mainly as the return of one of the most important entries in the series for a new generation.

The announcement was made during the Nintendo Direct on June 9, 2026, where the remake closed the presentation with a short teaser. The footage does not yet offer a full look at the adventure, but it does show young Link in Kokiri Village, resting before being awakened by Navi. The scene is instantly familiar to longtime players, but it has a very different impact thanks to the fully renewed visuals and the updated character model for Link.
Bringing Ocarina of Time back on Switch 2 carries obvious weight. First released in 1998 for Nintendo 64, the game marked The Legend of Zelda’s move into three dimensions and helped define ideas that still shape action-adventure games today. Its story followed a young Link on a mission tied to the fate of Hyrule, threatened by Ganondorf, through dungeons, exploration, puzzles, and moments that became central to the identity of the franchise.
The remake appears to start from that same iconic foundation, keeping recognizable locations and story beats while rebuilding them for Switch 2 hardware. The biggest unanswered question is how far Nintendo will go with changes to pacing, controls, exploration, and presentation. For now, the core message is clear: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is returning in 2026 as a fully renewed version of one of Link’s most beloved adventures.
