Order of the Sinking Star now has a release date. The puzzle adventure from Thekla will launch on October 8, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and PC via Steam. A PC demo is already available, and save data will carry over to the full game, giving players a practical reason to start exploring its early puzzles before release day.
The game comes from Jonathan Blow, known for Braid and The Witness, and is built around a large-scale approach to puzzle adventure design. It features more than one thousand hand-crafted puzzles, hundreds of hours of gameplay and an interconnected world designed around player freedom. Instead of forcing progress through a single roadblock, the structure lets players move elsewhere, return later and tackle challenges at their own pace.
The adventure takes place in a realm of magic, dangerous contraptions, monsters and layered mysteries. Players explore four distinct worlds, each with its own characters, mechanics, rules, dangers and secrets. As those worlds begin to collide, puzzle systems also overlap, opening up new combinations and unexpected solutions. The playable cast includes a queen, a thief, a warrior, a wizard and a talking boat, with each character bringing abilities that shape how different situations can be solved.
Order of the Sinking Star is also notable for its puzzle design lineage. The project includes contributions connected to games such as Skipping Stones to Lonely Homes, Mirror Isles, Promesst, Heroes of Sokoban, Patrick’s Parabox and Miegakure. That collective design base supports an adventure where exploration, storytelling and evolving mechanics feed into one another, with cryptic notes, narrated discoveries and a larger mythos to piece together across the journey.
