Professor Layton returns to his puzzle adventure origins

Professor Layton and the Curious Village Remake will launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. LEVEL-5 is bringing back the first entry in the series, originally released for Nintendo DS in February 2007, in a new form for modern platforms.

The adventure marks the starting point of the partnership between Professor Hershel Layton and his apprentice Luke. The two travel to the remote village of St. Mystere after a request from the widow of a wealthy baron, whose inheritance depends on one puzzle: finding the Golden Apple hidden somewhere in town to claim the Reinhold Estate.

The remake keeps the puzzle adventure structure that gave the series its identity, with investigations, conversations, environmental observation, and riddles placed throughout the journey. Its appeal remains tied to an elegant mystery built around intuition and reasoning rather than action or fast-paced set pieces.

The biggest changes focus on presentation. Characters are being reimagined in 3D, exploration is designed with greater depth, and the world of the Curious Village is gaining richer detail. Animations are also being updated in high resolution and widescreen, giving memorable scenes a cleaner modern look.

Players tracking the remake before a final date is set can save Professor Layton and the Curious Village Remake through the Playority Calendar, where upcoming games can be followed on a personal account for customized updates on release timing, platforms, and availability. Direct project details are also available on the official website for Professor Layton and the Curious Village Remake.
