Shadow of the Road will launch for PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG on November 12. Developed by Another Angle Games and published by Owlcat Games, it is a story-driven turn-based RPG that blends feudal Japan, steam-powered technology, magic and samurai-flavored tactics. A demo is already available for players who want to try the game before release.

The setting moves to 1868 Japan, a country divided by a brutal civil war between the traditionalist forces of Shogun Tokugawa and the technologically superior army of Emperor Mutsuhito, backed by the British East Nippon Company. Ancient temples, towering machines and supernatural beings share the same landscape, turning modernization and heritage into the central conflict behind the journey.
The story begins with Tokugawa’s spymaster recruiting the rōnin Satoru and Akira to protect a mysterious boy with immense, unstable powers. As the mission unfolds, new heroes join the group, each carrying their own background, skills, fears and motivations. Choices can create new bonds, break long friendships or repair damaged family ties, shaping how the characters change over time.
Combat uses a classic turn-based foundation with a stronger tactical focus on the abilities of every squad member. Yokai and steampunk contraptions demand planning, proper skill use and attention to the group’s internal dynamics. Raw damage is not the only concern: personalities, relationships and personal goals can influence how encounters unfold and how the team performs under pressure.
The result is an RPG where strategy and storytelling push in the same direction, with a party to shape around personal tactics and an empire whose fate can change through decisions. Players who want to follow Shadow of the Road toward launch can use the Playority Calendar to save games to their account, receive notifications and keep personalized updates organized around dates, demos, platforms and the PC release.
