Playtonic Friends and Playtonic Games have announced Super Yooka-Laylee Kart for PC via Steam. The game does not have a release date yet, but it will be playable for the first time at Summer Game Fest Play Days. Several multiplayer-focused beta tests are also planned ahead of launch, making it clear that competitive play is one of the project’s main priorities from the start.
Super Yooka-Laylee Kart brings back Yooka and Laylee alongside a cast of familiar friends and rivals from the wider series. The game is built as a precision-focused arcade racer, with an emphasis on mastery, rivalry, and expressive driving rather than simple track chaos. Players will be able to race through a replayable story campaign, challenge opponents online, play local multiplayer, or create custom race setups for their own competitive events and tournaments.
The most distinctive system is Rage, a comeback mechanic tied directly to the flow of each race. As rivals attack and positions change, Rage builds over time. Once unleashed, it gives players access to revenge abilities that can turn a bad race into a brutal reversal. That layer sits alongside tight controls, advanced techniques, weapons, and multiple high-skill maneuvers, giving experienced players more ways to improve and adapt from track to track.
Coins also add a risk-and-reward element. Collecting them during races increases top speed, but they can also be spent between events on powerful perks, forcing players to choose between immediate pace and longer-term strategy. The campaign will include tournaments, rival races, endurance events, and skill-based challenges, while online features include multiplayer races, dedicated friend lobbies, leaderboards, and Time Trials. Local play will support up to eight-player split-screen multiplayer. With vibrant pixel art visuals combined with modern rendering techniques, Super Yooka-Laylee Kart is aiming for a competitive kart racing style built around precision, customization, and dramatic payback moments.
