Sword Sage: Awakening Shows Its Chinese Mythology Action RPG World

4Divinity and Sword Panda Limited have released a new story trailer and screenshots for Sword Sage: Awakening, an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and folklore. The game is planned for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, but it does not have a release date yet. The new material focuses on Jiannandao, the world where the adventure takes place, and San Niang, the warrior set to face the dangers consuming her homeland.

Jiannandao is a land shaped by a catastrophe that began long before the story starts. The Supreme White Gibbon Sage unearthed forbidden texts containing divine power and knowledge while drunk, setting off consequences that changed the region forever. Relentless natural disasters and monstrous infestations turned everyday life into a constant struggle for survival. In response, the people of Jiannandao forged advanced technologies to fight back, creating a setting where tradition, fantasy, and science-fiction elements exist side by side.

The trailer follows San Niang as she travels through this damaged world. The protagonist faces formidable enemies using martial arts skills, mystical artifacts, and a secret swordsman technique. Her mission is to stop the threats endangering Jiannandao and restore harmony to a land increasingly defined by destruction. The setup is built around a familiar heroic journey, but places it inside a world where the line between ancient folklore and advanced technology is deliberately blurred.

Combat is centered on fast action, combining swordplay, martial arts, and supernatural tools. San Niang will battle the deadly Yaoguai demons haunting the world, while also using powerful Taoist spells to overcome them. The mix of physical techniques and spiritual abilities should give combat more variety than an action RPG built only around weapons, leaving room for different approaches and a greater focus on how players manage the tools available to them.

The new screenshots reinforce the project’s visual identity, showing natural landscapes, traditional architecture, unsettling creatures, and character designs inspired by Chinese culture. Sword Sage: Awakening still has no release window, but the new trailer makes its direction clearer: an action adventure built around demons, martial arts, Taoist magic, and a fantasy world that blends different eras and influences into one setting.
