Ciri Leads The Witcher IV Into a 2028 Open-World RPG Window

The Witcher IV is targeting a 2028 release window for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC. CD Projekt RED has not shared an exact date yet, and the game will not be shown at Gamescom 2026, but the pre-event message finally gives players a clearer window for the next mainline entry.

The project starts a new saga with Ciri at the center, moving The Witcher beyond Geralt without leaving its open-world action RPG identity behind. More than 500 developers are working on the game, which is being positioned as a huge, immersive experience with intense combat and a story meant to stay with players.

Expectations are high because The Witcher IV follows one of the most influential modern RPG series and will be measured against a legacy of vast worlds, layered quests and difficult moral choices. Ciri leading the new chapter gives the sequel room to change rhythm, tone and power fantasy without cutting ties with the series roots.

Before that, 2027 will bring more Witcher content with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past planned ahead of the new RPG. Players tracking The Witcher IV alongside upcoming role-playing releases can use the Playority Calendar, which lets users save games to their account, receive notifications and keep personalized updates organized around dates, platforms and new details.
