WANE has been revealed during the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct. Developed by Metis Creative, the game is a tactical turn-based RPG with roguelike elements set inside an industrial noir dystopia influenced by 1980s aesthetics. WANE is currently in development for PC, with Shoreline Games handling publishing. A release date has not yet been announced.
The story follows Declan Wayne, an archaeologist whose memories are beginning to collapse. His inner world, known as Ravelle, has become an unstable labyrinth shaped by defining moments, trauma, obsession and regret. Each expedition takes players deeper into this fractured mental landscape, while the narrative gradually expands across repeated runs and reveals more about Declan and the people connected to his past.
Players will recruit adventurers and assemble a three-character party before heading into Ravelle. Battles take place on a grid and focus on positioning, cover and line of sight, while percentage-based attacks add uncertainty to individual decisions. Runs also introduce random encounters, attrition and boss fights, forcing the party to manage its resources carefully as it pushes toward increasingly dangerous areas.
The journey is divided across three main biomes: the Ravellian Sanatorium, the Palace of Arvanshah and the Death Pilgrimage to Erabel. Each location is connected to Ravelle’s history and Declan’s fractured memories, giving the different stages of a run their own narrative context as well as distinct environments to explore.
Between expeditions, players return to Declan’s antiquarian shop. Relics recovered during a run can be appraised and sold, providing the resources needed to upgrade facilities and finance future attempts. Continued progression can unlock permanent buffs, shortcuts and new party synergies, creating a loop where exploration, tactical combat and long-term preparation feed directly into the next descent through Ravelle.
