The digital version will cost $49.99, while the physical release is priced at $59.99; in Japan, the listed prices are 5,480 yen for digital and 6,480 yen for physical. The return of Fox McCloud is built around a full technical overhaul and a more elaborate presentation than the original release. Characters have been redesigned, stages have been visually refreshed, and the in-between sequences now include new cutscenes, fully voiced dialogue and new mission briefings between stages. Nintendo also mentions an orchestral soundtrack, giving the Lylat system a more cinematic feel as players move from planet to planet.

Star Fox still focuses on Arwing dogfights, but the structure has been expanded. In Campaign Mode, players can start on Easy or Normal and unlock Expert by earning medals and completing objectives; actions taken during a mission can also alter the route and lead to different stages on later runs. That setup makes the campaign more replayable and less linear, since performance directly affects what comes next.

Challenge Mode lets players revisit cleared stages with extra objectives, while Battle Mode adds 4v4 team battles between Team Star Fox and Team Star Wolf. The mode includes three maps with different goals: holding a designated zone on Corneria, collecting energy crystals on Fichina, and recovering cargo from space pirates in Sector Y. It supports up to eight players and includes private online matches, along with local and online GameShare options.

Other additions include Joy-Con 2 mouse controls and GameChat, which are designed to fit into the multiplayer setup more naturally. As a result, this is not just a visual remake of Star Fox 64, but a broader package that mixes a more varied campaign, extra modes and a competitive layer built for group play.

For fans waiting for the series to return on current Nintendo hardware, the announcement brings a clear update: a fixed release date, pre-orders already live, and a version that combines visual upgrades, new features and a larger overall scope than the Nintendo 64 original.
