SEGA and RGG Studio have officially announced Virtua Fighter Crossroads, the new entry in the series previously known as Virtua Fighter New Project. The game is due out in 2027 and marks a major shift for a franchise historically built around technical, realistic combat and streamlined controls. That identity is still part of the project, but it now sits inside a broader structure described as a narrative-driven action adventure where story and fighting are designed to work together.

The first reveal introduced Cielo, a new fighter used to set the tone for the game’s cinematic storytelling and intense action. Virtua Fighter Crossroads is built around the idea of crossroads, not only as a title but as the foundation of its narrative. The campaign will follow four different protagonists, each driven by personal convictions and burdened by their own past. Their paths will intersect across a city filled with activities, choice encounters, and consequences shaped by decisions made both in and out of battle.
The main setting is Vilasapara, an island city known as the “City of Martial Arts.” In the year 20XX, the Arma Carta ended an era of bloodshed and allowed the crime syndicates operating in the city to maintain a fragile balance. That balance starts to crack when President Bato makes Vilasapara a key piece of his reelection campaign, presenting the underground Vila Fight Fest as a possible national sport and a solution to the country’s economic problems. At the same time, martial artists are being attacked by a figure known as the Bakunawa Killer.
Vilasapara will be made up of multiple distinct districts, including a walled central city, entertainment areas, and resort zones. Beyond the main storyline, the game will include side stories and quests tied to specific locations and the relationships formed with local characters. The city is being treated as more than a backdrop, with hidden agendas and social tensions feeding into the larger story.
On the gameplay side, Virtua Fighter Crossroads will place its story mode alongside a robust Versus experience with local and online options. Combat situations in the campaign will include multi-opponent brawls and boss encounters, while the control scheme keeps the intuitive design associated with Virtua Fighter. The result is a project that aims to preserve the series’ tactical mind games and visual realism while expanding them into a more cinematic, choice-driven adventure.
