Onimusha: Way of the Sword returns with “Severing Fates,” a trailer focused on one of the most unsettling stops in Miyamoto Musashi’s journey. The samurai reaches a shrine known for severing the threads that connect people’s fates, only to discover a twisted presence preying on the innocent visitors who bring their wishes there. The new threat is tied directly to a sacred location inspired by Kyoto’s real Yasui Konpiragu Shrine.
This reconstruction of Japan’s historic capital is one of the adventure’s central features. Edo-period Kyoto retains recognizable temples and landmarks, including Kiyomizu-dera, but the city has been warped by clouds of Malice and the arrival of the Genma, monsters drawn from the depths of hell. Musashi enters Kyoto determined to prove that no one can match him in the way of the sword, yet his pursuit of glory takes an unexpected turn and becomes a struggle against creatures and warriors capable of challenging his skill.
The Oni Gauntlet grants Musashi power beyond human limits and defines the game’s combat loop. It allows him to cut down Genma, absorb their souls, and convert that energy into strength for its wearer. A mysterious voice also speaks from the artifact, adding another unanswered question to his path. Battles emphasize bloody duels, parries, precise sword strikes, and formidable opponents whose martial ability can rival Musashi’s own, placing the action inside a dark fantasy story where danger, mystery, and spectacle overlap.
Capcom based this version of Musashi’s face on Toshiro Mifune, connecting the character to one of Japanese samurai cinema’s defining performers. Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches on September 4, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store. A demo is available now on every platform except Switch 2. Steam lists the game as a single-player release with achievements, cloud saves, and HDR support, while the pre-order bonus includes the Lion Dog charm and Sealed Curse sword appearance.
