The project is a full reimagining of Advanced Busterhawk Gley Lancer, the Japanese Mega Drive shoot ’em up originally released in 1992. Nalua Studio is not treating it as a basic rerelease, but as a rebuilt version with new pixel art, reinterpreted music, enhanced mechanics, expanded multiplayer, and extra modes designed for both returning players and newcomers.

The story is still set in the distant year 2025 and follows Lucia Cabrock, a Federation Navy pilot. After the Oberon, her father’s ship, is abducted by an unknown alien force, Lucia takes control of the experimental Gley Lancer and heads deep into hostile space to chase the threat.

The action remains fast side-scrolling shoot ’em up combat, built around responsive movement, multiple weapon types, adjustable firing directions, and configurable Gunner satellites. The new Overdrive mechanic adds a temporary protective field that can also be aimed at enemies in eight directions, turning defense into an offensive scoring tool.

Destroying enemies with Overdrive releases Cores that build score multipliers, creating a clearer risk-reward loop. Players who want to survive can use the system carefully, while score chasers will need to push closer to danger and time each wave more aggressively.

The original 11 stages have been redrawn with new environments, animations, and reworked cutscenes. The package also includes multiple difficulty levels, Bullet Hell on modern platforms, Score Attack, Boss Rush, Speedrunner, 1CC, Stage Select, Boss Select, and Core Pickup Run. Players tracking the game before a final release date is set can save Gley Lancer: Overdrive through the Playority Calendar, where upcoming games can be followed on a personal account for customized updates on release timing, platforms, and availability.
