Metroid Ravenous turns Samus into a hungrier metroidvania hunter

Metroid Ravenous will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. Nintendo is presenting the new entry as a side-scrolling metroidvania adventure, putting Samus back into a darker and more aggressive survival setup than the series’ usual isolated planetary missions.

The premise is direct: Samus is attacked by unknown assailants, suffers grave injuries, and wakes up without knowing where she is. Her goal is to reach the surface and escape a hostile moon, but her chances are slim. The trailer leans into one sharp idea, with Samus forced to feed on enemies in order to survive.

That detail gives Ravenous its identity. This is still a Metroid game built around exploration, hostile corridors, ability-based progression, and returning to previous areas with new tools, but the survival angle pushes the tone closer to predator and prey than simple escape.

The launch will also be supported by new amiibo. Two figures, featuring Samus and a Chozo Statue, will release alongside the game on January 28. A third amiibo, showing Samus in a Metroid Suit, will be included with a Special Edition that also contains a SteelBook and a copy of the game.

Players tracking the 2027 release calendar can add Metroid Ravenous to the Playority Calendar, where upcoming games can be saved to a personal account for customized updates on release timing, platform details, and availability when new information arrives.
