Activision and Toys for Bob have announced Spyro: A Realm Beyond, a new entry in the series coming in spring 2027 to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store. The project is also presented as Spyro the Dragon 4 and marks the purple dragon’s return in a fully original adventure, built for longtime fans while remaining open to players discovering the series for the first time.

The reveal immediately focuses on one major evolution: flight. Spyro: A Realm Beyond is not limiting movement to gliding or isolated flying stages, but introducing true dragon flight as a core part of the experience. Players will be able to soar above bright landscapes, weave between treetops, dive from massive landmarks, and chain climbs, dives, and tight turns to cross the new realm with far more freedom than before.
The story begins when Spyro becomes stranded in a strange and wondrous land and starts looking for a way home. That journey is interrupted by the arrival of the Scavs, a vicious invading force threatening to change the realm forever. Spyro will need to make new allies, explore unfamiliar places, and protect a world he does not yet fully understand, turning his search for home into a larger fight for the realm’s future.
The game promises expanded exploration and new gameplay systems designed to evolve the classic Spyro experience without abandoning its identity. The direction appears to keep the series’ colorful, accessible adventure spirit while pushing movement, discovery, and vertical traversal into a more ambitious shape. A familiar voice is also returning, with Tom Kenny once again voicing Spyro as the character enters this new era.
The announcement arrived with a reveal trailer and the first official screenshots. For now, the details remain concise, but Spyro: A Realm Beyond already has a clear pitch: a completely new adventure, a brand-new world to discover, and a flight system built to make the purple dragon feel freer than ever. More information is expected later, but the spring 2027 window gives the return of Spyro a concrete target.
