Star Fox update adds four-player split-screen and new stages

Star Fox has received its version 1.2.0 update on Nintendo Switch 2. The biggest addition is in Battle Mode: up to four people can now play in split-screen on a single console, with one controller required for each player. Joy-Con 2 and Joy-Con controllers can also be used individually in horizontal grip. Three battle stages—Katina, Sector X and Venom—join the rotation alongside new items that can appear during matches.

Local split-screen is not limited to games played entirely on the same console. Players using it can now enter random online matches as a team, allowing a group in one room to compete alongside other online players. Another online change keeps the lobby together after its host leaves, so the departure no longer disbands the group. Both adjustments address how people get into and remain in Battle Mode matches.

Campaign and Challenge Modes receive smaller usability changes. Selecting “Abandon Campaign” after a game over now brings up a confirmation dialog, and visual adjustments make damage to certain bosses easier to see. The Bolse Core weak point has a revised color, while a Sector X challenge can still be completed after collecting the wing-repair item. Training has also moved the left and right goalposts in a tilt-control exercise to make them easier to fly through.

The patch fixes a number of freezes and crashes tied to bosses, restarts and switching between modes. These include an occasional crash after repeatedly restarting on Corneria, an online match that could stop progressing when the host lost their connection, and an incorrect score calculation when a Battle Mode player reached roughly 1,200 points. Other fixes address cases in which the Arwing’s wing durability changed unexpectedly or certain maneuvers became unavailable after a particular sequence of activities.

GameChat users also get an adjustment to camera display during full-screen play. With a separately sold USB camera, the feed can appear on the game screen at certain moments, such as after shooting down an enemy aircraft. Video and microphone audio go only to GameChat members. The update addresses compatibility problems affecting some third-party USB cameras, although it does not guarantee support for every model.
