The Escapists 3 goes fully 3D with five prisons in 2027

Team17 has announced The Escapists 3 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. Revealed during the Triple-I Initiative Showcase, the prison sandbox moves the series into fully 3D environments and introduces five prisons to break out of. Players can attempt an escape alone, join a second player in local split-screen, or cooperate with up to four people online.

Each prison has its own routines, characters, and secrets. Planning a way out involves watching guard rotations, understanding the facility’s systems, and finding opportunities to exploit them. Crafting, sneaking, fighting, and improvising all contribute to an escape, with multiple solutions available rather than a single prescribed route. Some of the possibilities teased in the announcement involve a pogo stick or molten chocolate.

More than 120 new weapons can be stolen or crafted. Searching cells, trading with inmates, and completing jobs provide supplies for those plans. Gathering resources sits alongside learning the prison’s daily schedule, giving players several activities to pursue before making their move. Cooperative play lets accomplices combine their strengths and compensate for each other’s weaknesses while attempting to carry out a shared escape.

The sequel also adds experience-based inmate progression. Players earn XP and unlock skills and gameplay options that let them specialize in particular approaches to escaping. Those abilities carry over between prisons, so character development continues as players move to a different facility with new routines to learn and systems to investigate.

The release window remains 2027, with a specific date yet to be announced. Players following The Escapists 3 alongside other upcoming games can use the Playority Calendar to add titles to their accounts, organize the releases they are interested in, and receive updates about launch dates.
