Activision and Infinity Ward have announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, due out on October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, and PC. On PC, it will be available through Steam, Microsoft Store, and Battle.net. Pre-orders are already open on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, while Switch 2 pre-orders will follow later this summer.

The new entry shifts the story to the Korean Peninsula, where a North Korean invasion sets off a wider war. The campaign follows two threads: Private Park, a young South Korean soldier trying to survive as the front line collapses, and Captain Price, who is carrying out an off-book mission that gradually collides with the larger conflict.
The campaign also moves through a wide range of locations and combat situations, from trench warfare in Korea to close-quarters fighting in New York, high-speed chases in Paris, night raids in Mumbai, and city-wide assaults to retake occupied ground. That variety is matched by a darker tone, with the conflict spreading far beyond the opening invasion and pulling multiple fronts into the same crisis.
Multiplayer is built around grounded gunplay and fluid movement, with an emphasis on precision and control. Modern Warfare 4 will launch with 12 Core maps, plus dedicated Gunfight maps, Big War maps, and a new area called Kill Block.
Kill Block is set inside the Westbridge Training Facility and changes layout between rounds, with more than 500 modular combinations. The shifting structure can alter cover, routes, and sightlines from match to match, forcing players to adapt quickly to each new setup. It also supports expanded Gunfight formats, including 3v3 and 10v10, with more modes planned for later seasons.
Overall, the announcement confirms a release date, a broad platform lineup, and a campaign that spans multiple theaters of war alongside a multiplayer package built around map variety and a dynamic new arena. The full editions, preorder contents, and the exact Switch 2 rollout are still to be detailed.
