Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV will no longer launch on September 17. Deep Silver and KING Art Games have delayed the real-time strategy sequel to December 3, 2026 for PC via Steam, giving the development team almost three additional months before release. Players who purchase the Commander Edition will be able to start earlier on November 30. The change was announced alongside a new video focused on the revised release date.

The additional development time will primarily be used to incorporate more community playtest feedback, fix bugs, improve performance, and polish the overall experience. KING Art Games plans to continue releasing Battlefield Reports, gameplay footage, and deeper looks at different parts of the game in the meantime. The delay also affects the post-launch schedule, with the Year One roadmap being adjusted around the new December release.
Dawn of War IV marks a return to the RTS foundations of the series, combining base construction, army growth, and specialized squad management. Four factions will be playable: Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus, making their Dawn of War debut. Each army brings its own commanders, units, buildings, and mechanics, while an expanded Sync Kill system is designed to add greater detail to melee combat. More information about the project can be found on the official website for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV.
The story content will span more than 70 campaign missions divided between the four factions, with support for both solo and cooperative play. Black Library author John French co-wrote the story, which will also feature CGI introductions and fully animated cutscenes. Beyond the campaigns, the returning Last Stand mode will be joined by configurable Skirmish battles against AI and competitive multiplayer supporting one-versus-one, two-versus-two, and three-versus-three matches.
The Painter tool will also let players customize the appearance of their armies or use established factions from the wider Warhammer 40,000 universe. December 3 is therefore the new date for Dawn of War IV’s full launch, while Commander Edition owners will be able to enter the battlefield three days earlier.
