The Witcher 3 gets Songs of the Past, a third expansion due in 2027

CD Projekt has announced Songs of the Past, a third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt scheduled for 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The project is being co-developed with Fool’s Theory and will bring Geralt of Rivia back for a new adventure. More details are set for late summer 2026.

The announcement follows the game’s two previous expansions, Hearts of Stone in 2015 and Blood and Wine in 2016. That makes Songs of the Past the first new expansion for The Witcher 3 in years, after the original game launched in 2015. CD Projekt also said the next update will come with revised system requirements to keep performance and compatibility in line with the new content.

For now, CD Projekt has not shared details about the setting, quest structure or overall scope of the expansion. The only confirmed points beyond the release window are Geralt’s return and the involvement of Fool’s Theory, a studio made up in part of veterans who worked on The Witcher 3. That connection suggests a close link to the original game’s team, but the company has not said how much the new content will change the formula.

More information is coming in late summer 2026, while the expansion itself remains planned for 2027. Until then, Songs of the Past stands as a rare return to The Witcher 3’s world, and one that arrives alongside a system requirements update tied to the game’s next patch.
