Village in the Shade will launch in the west on October 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC via Steam. The hand-painted rural life simulation game, published by NIS America, originally debuted on July 30 in Japan and Asia, with shipments and digital sales already surpassing 100,000 units in Japan alone. The western date was announced alongside a new trailer.

The adventure takes place in Kagatsu, a seemingly peaceful Japanese mountain village. Daily life includes growing crops, fishing, hunting, customizing a homestead, and gathering resources to craft fences and other useful items. Players can also buy furniture in town, take part in traditional activities such as the summer festival and cherry-blossom viewing, and build relationships with the other residents.
That relaxed routine hides a much more unsettling side. Kagatsu has three simple rules: do not talk to strangers, do not leave the village, and above all, never go outside at night. Breaking those rules opens the way to discovering the truth behind the community and seeing parts of village life that remain hidden during its quieter daytime activities.
Players who would rather avoid the horror elements can select the “Village in the Sunshine” mode. In this version, the rules cannot be broken, allowing the game to focus entirely on farming, fishing, hunting, and peaceful countryside life. A $89.99 Limited Edition is also available for pre-order with the game, an art book, original soundtrack, acrylic stand, five enamel pins, and a sticker sheet. The Switch 2 edition uses a game-key card.
